Spinal Research is the UK’s leading charity funding medical research around the world to develop reliable treatments for paralysis caused by a broken back or neck.
Every year more than 800 people in the UK and Ireland are paralysed following an injury to their spinal cord. Spinal Research raises money to fund research into clinical treatments as well as vital basic science research. Thanks to such pioneering research, paralysis can now be treated and we stand on the brink of applying therapies that will restore movement and feeling and transform the lives of paralysed people.

Spinal Research’s latest research focus - Chronic Injury. The spinal cord is perhaps the most complex tissue within the body to repair. Click here to find out more.

Newsflash! Support from The Freemasons’ Grand Charity

The Freemasons’ Grand Charity is supporting our research with a fantastic grant of £20,000! This will go towards funding a PhD studentship, under the supervision of Dr Roger Keynes and Prof James Fawcett at the Cambridge Centre for Brain Repair: the team there is investigating the potential benefits of using an improved version of the enzyme chondroitinase to promote nerve regrowth in the spinal cord and we are most grateful to the Freemasons for their significant and most generous support.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Do you have a few hours to spare? Then Spinal Research, based just outside Guildford, Surrey, would really like to hear from you. We need volunteers with some time to spare during the week to help in the office. This could involve anything from stuffing envelopes to helping set up a photo library. Our volunteers help out at events such as Race Days, equestrian events or cheering our runners on at the Flora London Marathon. If you would like to find out more please telephone Michelle on 01483 898786.
