On Sunday 1st October 2006 a fantastic team of runners turned out to run the 26th BUPA Great North Run for Spinal Research.
In total, 21 runners, including ex-champion jockey Richard Dunwoody (who you may have seen interviewed after the race on the BBC and is pictured here), two hand cyclists and a team of 6 runners pushing paralysed supporter Bill Shand Kydd, completed the route to raise funds and awareness for Spinal Research.
Congratulations to all our participants and thank you so much for taking part for Spinal Research!
So far a terrific sum has been raised by those who took part for the charity and thanks to a huge donation from a supporter who wishes to remain anonymous, the total has reached over £29,000 to date! A big thank you to Bromakin Wheelchairs too, who very kindly provided a fantastic chair for Bill to use on the day (www.bromakin.co.uk).
The Great North Run, who’s course snakes from the city centre of Newcastle, across the famous Tyne Bridge, to finish in coastal South Shields, runs for 13 miles and is one of most popular half marathons in the country.
Around 50,000 people run each year and many more spectators turn out to cheer them on! If you want to run for us in 2007, please click this link to take you to the Great North Run page for details or email Jo at run@spinal-research.org or call us on 01483 891 975.
